MINISTER'S BACKGROUND:

Pastor Sam graduated at The Queen's University of Belfast with a Bachelor of Divinity Degree in 1990 after studies at Edgehill Theological College where he worked with students from the Methodist and Presbyterian churches and other denominations. He continued with post graduate studies gaining an M.A. and PhD Degree with Greenwich School of Theology in 1993 and 1995 respectively.

After being Demobbed from the Royal Army Medical Corps in 1967 he returned to Belfast, his hometown. Within a short time N Ireland was to experience what is now commonly called The Troubles which broke out in 1969. After that the Grant family came to live and work in Carrickfergus. Dr Grant had rejected the paramilitary way and had a deep desire to serve his country. Consequently, he began evangelical and community work in the early 1970's in his adopted town. Gospel Concerts and the writing of a weekly column in the Carrickfergus Advertiser (A local Newspaper) resulted in a group of people coming together, the majority of which had come from the beleaguered City of Belfast. Eventually they organised as a church of which he has been the minister for the past thirty three years.

Pastor Sam is now the longest serving minister in the Borough of Carrickfergus and he is ably helped in all his work by his wife, and associate pastor, Marie and son Jonathan.
